Design of one of the largest university hospitals in Central Europe.
Industria developed comprehensive design documentation for the new premises of the Jagiellonian University Medical College University Hospital in Kraków-Prokocim. The investment ranks among the largest medical undertakings completed in Central Europe and represents one of the most technologically advanced healthcare facilities in Poland.
Between 2015 and 2018, Industria was responsible for preparing the detailed concept, building design, and executive design, securing the building permit, managing interdisciplinary coordination, and providing author’s supervision. The project encompassed all engineering disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and medical technology.
The new hospital complex was built on a site spanning over 152,000 m². Featuring a usable floor area exceeding 108,000 m² and a gross volume of nearly 500,000 m³, the facility was designed as a modern center for treatment, diagnostics, scientific research, and academic teaching.
The design provided for 925 hospital beds across 31 wards, 27 clinical outpatient clinics, and 28 specialized outpatient clinics. A centerpiece of the complex was the integrated operating suite featuring 20 operating rooms, supported by extensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities.
The investment also incorporated modern medical units, including a nuclear medicine department, PET-CT, PET-MRI, and SPECT-CT suites, a radiotherapy center equipped with advanced oncological treatment systems, angiography and cath labs (hemodynamics), diagnostic imaging, endoscopic diagnostics, and a hyperbaric chamber center.
A vital component of the facility comprised diagnostic, microbiological, hematological, and genetic laboratories, alongside a central sterile supply department (CSSD), a dialysis unit, a hospital pharmacy, an Emergency Department, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The project also accommodated the extensive educational functions characteristic of a university hospital. The complex included a 250-seat lecture auditorium, lecture halls, and dozens of seminar rooms supporting the training of future physicians and medical personnel.
A key challenge was coordinating a vast array of medical, technological, and technical processes within a single facility. The project required the seamless integration of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, technical infrastructure, and the specialized requirements demanded of modern academic hospitals.
The University Hospital in Kraków exemplifies an investment where design extends far beyond building architecture. The primary objective was creating an environment that supports treatment, diagnostics, scientific research, and medical education within a single, integrated functional organism.
