Industria developed comprehensive multi-disciplinary design documentation for the construction of the Integrated Operating Suite at the 5th Military Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic SPZOZ in Kraków. The investment represented one of the most significant medical infrastructure development projects undertaken within the military healthcare sector in Poland.
The scope of work included the preparation of conceptual, building, and executive designs, demolition documentation, investor cost estimates, implementation schedules, fire safety scenarios, and obtaining the required administrative permits. The project was executed using BIM technology with full interdisciplinary coordination across all engineering fields.
The centerpiece of the investment was the new Integrated Operating Suite building, featuring a net floor area of over 27,000 m² and a gross volume exceeding 135,000 m³. The facility was connected to the existing hospital buildings via a new connecting walkway and integrated into the infrastructure of the entire medical complex.
The building design incorporates:
- An operating suite with 8 operating rooms, including a hybrid operating room and rooms equipped to accommodate a mobile CT scanner
- An Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 16 stations
- A central sterile supply department (CSSD)
- A neurosurgery ward
- A rehabilitation ward
- A stroke unit
- A clinical neurology ward
- An ophthalmology ward
- A histopathology department
- A clinical analytics laboratory
- An otolaryngology (ENT) ward
The project also encompassed the expansion of the hospital’s technical infrastructure, including the construction of a wastewater disinfection station, expansion of the electrical switchboard, reconstruction of existing structures, as well as the construction of a road system, parking areas, and new utility networks. The design covered MEP installations, telecommunications, medical gas systems, and advanced security and building management systems.
A particular challenge was integrating the new structure with the operating military hospital, alongside coordinating the extensive medical and technical infrastructure. The design accommodated, among other features, over 55 air handling units (AHUs), medical gas systems, centralized back-up power supply, BMS installations, fire safety systems, access control, IP TV, and extensive ICT infrastructure.
Industria managed full interdisciplinary coordination across architecture, structural engineering, MEP, telecommunications, civil/road infrastructure, as well as medical and non-medical technology. The result of these efforts was a comprehensive project for a modern surgical and diagnostic center meeting the requirements of contemporary, highly specialized medicine.
