Industria developed comprehensive multi-disciplinary design documentation for the expansion of the DCT Gdańsk Container Terminal, one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the Polish port sector. The project aimed to increase the terminal’s handling capacity and develop infrastructure enabling the servicing of growing container traffic in the Baltic Sea.
The scope of work included designing a new 650-meter-long cargo handling quay featuring a design depth of 17.25 meters, redeveloping the existing DCT1 quay, and modernizing the breakwater. The investment also encompassed the construction of extensive container storage yards, internal transport networks, and technical infrastructure necessary for the operations of a modern port terminal.
As part of the project, over 109,000 m² of storage yards, approximately 136,000 m² of traffic routes, nearly 28,000 m² of crane runways, and over 12,000 m² of quay infrastructure were designed. The scope also incorporated parking lots, internal roads, and maneuvering areas to service logistical traffic.
An integral component of the investment was the construction and expansion of building facilities supporting terminal operations. An office building with a gate complex, a main power supply substation (GPZ), transformer stations, and administrative-staff buildings were designed. The infrastructure was completed with full utility servicing, covering power supply, water, sewerage, gas, telecommunications, and fire protection networks.
A key design challenge was coordinating the hydrotechnical, logistical, and technical infrastructure within one of Poland’s most operationally intensive port areas. The project required integrating solutions to enable the handling of ultra-large container vessels and providing technical specifications tailored for modern cargo handling systems.
Industria was responsible for preparing documentation across all engineering disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), telecommunications, civil/road engineering, and hydrotechnical engineering. The result of these works was a comprehensive design supporting the further development of Poland’s strategic port infrastructure.
The expansion of the DCT Gdańsk terminal stands as an example of designing advanced logistical infrastructure, where multi-disciplinary coordination, technical system reliability, and the efficient organization of transport and handling processes play a critical role.
