University Public Hospital No. 1

(formerly: Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1)

Industria developed comprehensive design documentation for the expansion and redevelopment of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin. The investment represented one of the largest medical infrastructure modernization projects in Poland, encompassing the expansion of diagnostic, surgical, emergency, and teaching functions of a clinical hospital.

Between 2017 and 2019, Industria prepared the detailed design concept, building design, executive design, and demolition documentation for the project titled “Expansion and Redevelopment of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 SPZOZ in Lublin.” The work encompassed all engineering disciplines, including architecture with interior design, structural engineering, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), telecommunications, civil/road infrastructure, as well as medical and non-medical technology.

The centerpiece of the investment was the new G-16 building, featuring a net floor area of over 27,000 m² and a gross volume exceeding 152,000 m³. The facility was designed as a modern diagnostic and surgical center integrating the core functions of a highly specialized hospital.

The building design incorporated an Emergency Department (ED), an integrated operating suite with eight operating rooms including one hybrid operating room – an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), a Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology Department, an Endoscopic Diagnostics Department, as well as laboratories and a blood bank. The facility also accommodates wards for general, vascular, and trauma surgery, gynecology, and maxillofacial surgery.

Complementing the investment was building H-11, which houses hospital-affiliated specialized outpatient clinics, a blood draw and vaccination station, an endoscopic diagnostics department, storage facilities, technical areas, and changing rooms for students and staff. This building supports the hospital’s outpatient and teaching operations.

The project also included design documentation for a rescue helicopter helipad and the extensive technical infrastructure required for the operation of a modern clinical hospital. A particular challenge was integrating the new structures into the existing medical complex and coordinating the investment within a heritage conservation area.

The entire undertaking was implemented in the historical part of Lublin, within a zone protected by heritage conservation regulations and adjacent to historic landmark structures. This required close collaboration with the Provincial and Municipal Historic Preservation Officers, balancing modern medical requirements with constraints resulting from the historical context of the site.

A key design challenge was coordinating advanced medical technology, complex technical infrastructure, and functional requirements for one of the largest clinical hospitals in the country. Seamlessly integrating diagnostics, surgical care, emergency services, and academic facilities within a single complex was of paramount importance.
