Industria developed the preparatory and conceptual documentation for the construction of the Research and Analytical Center of the National Institute of Public Health NIH – National Research Institute in Warsaw. The investment aimed to create state-of-the-art laboratory and research facilities supporting the scientific, diagnostic, and analytical activities of one of the most vital public health institutions in Poland.

The scope of work included the preparation of the functional and utility concept, architectural and urban planning concept, Functional-Utility Program (PFU), and complete documentation required to conduct the procurement procedure under the Design & Build delivery model. Industria was also responsible for technical advisory during the contractor selection process, updating the documentation, and responding to inquiries from prospective bidders.

The designed facility achieved a total floor area of over 30,500 m², a usable floor area of nearly 14,000 m², and a gross volume exceeding 131,000 m³. The building was designed as a six-story research center comprising five above-ground levels and one underground level.

A key element of the project was developing the design basis for modern research and diagnostic laboratories with varying biosafety levels – ranging from BSL-1 to BSL-3+ intended for advanced research in public health, microbiology, epidemiology, and laboratory diagnostics.

The documentation also included guidelines for site development, road infrastructure, demolition of existing structures, laboratory technology, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) installations, telecommunications, and the Building Management System (BMS). Requirements regarding the building’s economic efficiency, fire safety, BIM standards, and investment execution and handover protocols were also defined.

A particular challenge was integrating the requirements of modern laboratory infrastructure with stringent biosafety standards, as well as creating a flexible environment that enables top-tier scientific research. The project required close collaboration among specialists in architecture, structural engineering, MEP systems, and laboratory technology.

Industria prepared a comprehensive architectural and urban planning concept covering architecture, structural engineering, HVAC/plumbing, electrical, telecommunications, road infrastructure, BMS, and laboratory technology. The result of these efforts formed the baseline for one of the most advanced research investment projects in the public health sector in Poland.
